The date is tentatively set for the 2024 Covered Bridge Cruise.  We will be cruising about a hundred miles and crossing many covered bridges.

We will almost certainly be starting off from Oregon Dairy.  End point and any pit stops will be determined later.

The cruise is set up for the Mustang Club of Central PA, and is open to all Mustangs.  As we have in the past, we are inviting friends who drive other sporty cars to join us.

We will have the route and other details finalized two or three weeks before the cruise.  Once registered you will be added to the mailing list and receive updates via email.  Please be sure we have your correct and current email address when you register.  It is recommended that you get and look over the directions ahead of time, especially if this is your first Covered Bridge Cruise.  At the very least, read the general notes and key to the directions.  The directions are designed to be easy to follow.  There are no riddles or tricks; we don’t want anyone getting lost in the wilds of Lancaster County.

We will providing GPX files for the route.  There will be more info on this in the update emails.

Tips to help you enjoy the cruise

Tips to help you enjoy the Cruise:

These tips are specifically for this cruise though you may find them helpful for other similar events.

We strongly advise that you have a navigator or arrange to follow someone who does.  Many of the roads we will be cruising on are narrow and winding.  You do not want to be trying to read directions while driving this route.  The smaller your group of cars the less likely you are to get separated.  The route is designed to stay away from heavily traveled roads as much as possible, but there are places with traffic lights and stop signs where you may not be able to stay together.  Two way communications between cars within small groups is encouraged.  Cell phones (hands free of course), two way radios, walkie talkies, secure satellite links and telepathy are all viable options.  Smoke signals are not recommended except for those cruising in convertibles.  There are several folks who have cruised before and are familiar with the way the directions are laid out.  Come early to the starting point and hook up with one of them if you are cruising solo or lack confidence in your navigator.

The Covered Bridge Cruise is not just for Mustangs!

This cruise is planned as a nice leisurely drive through the beautiful Lancaster County countryside.  It is not a race or a rally.  There will be no one checking your time.  There are no prizes for arriving at the end first, or last.  If you see something along the way you want to stop and check out feel free to do so.  Please do not pass other cruisers unless they signal you to pass.

We will be cruising through farm country.  You are likely to encounter dirt, mud, hay, grass, gravel, sand, and other substances associated with farm animals on the roads.  If you have a concours quality vintage Mustang or really hate to wash your Mustang, this cruise may not be for you.

Most of the covered bridges on the cruise have steep approaches and sharp angles where the approach meets the bridge deck.  If your Mustang is factory height you will have no trouble.  If your ground clearance is lower than stock due to lowering springs or custom exhaust or body panels this cruise may not be for you.

All the covered bridges and some other bridges on the cruise are one lane.  Please be alert for oncoming traffic and yield where appropriate.

This is also Amish country.  You may encounter buggies.  It is legal to pass a buggy, even on a double yellow line, if you can do so safely.
